Moxie Dance Collective

Moxie Dance Collective is a movement company that connects artists through performance to collaborate their talents. This vision came to Sher Borrell as she was living in Los Angeles and wanted to share with other individuals in her industry and beyond. She connected with fellow collaborators Amanda Avis, Javier Gonzales, and Steve Shea to evolve an original company using different studio spaces through out the city. Moxie believes that dance is a universal language that has been used throughout time to communicate to all cultures, genders, ethnicities and religions. Moxie wishes to continue the evolution of dance by integrating artists into the community, so the audience becomes more involved in the creative process and is able to access more performances. Moxie is determined to bring performance to the audience by combining art with different genres of dance including ballet, modern, lyrical hip hop, contemporary, jazz latin and tap dance. Moxie will make dance available to the people of all ages regardless of their economic status or background.

Moxie recognizes the abundance of untapped talent in a city and is fueled by the amazing potential within that cityʼs perimeter. The company utilizes this determination, devotion and drive to move forward with multiple hosts who facilitate space and time for the artists to work and create. Using visual and performance artist, theater, fashion, multi-media, and site specific venues, Moxie connects film, photography, live music, singers, faith, cross culture and pop culture to produce its products. While designing personal shows for specific needs, Moxie presents at private parties, special events, dance concerts, festivals, schools, fashion shows and charity events.

Moxie host an eclectic repertory with diverse pieces. The company performed “Fever” an innovative, steamy number with a live jazz band for the opening of a supper club on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. At an international dance festival “ Dance in the Desert” in Las Vegas, Moxie performed “Faces of Frida” to a delighted audience. The piece is an interactive dance that depicts the life of famous artist Frida Kahlo using contemporary choreography mixed with traces of traditional Latin dance. Another piece called “Calm Chaos” uses the artwork of Gustav Klimpt to enliven the movement, theme and costumes set to an Indian inspired sound track. Utilizing fabric, partnering and yoga style movement, the number was a huge success. Moxie also performed for several dinner parties and events sharing the stage with other artists while entertaining for the afternoon or evening. Performances are by arrangement and can be designed to special ideas and requests.
